The Aylesbury Astronomical Society
We meet once a month usually with a presentation by a guest speaker or a society member. Subjects range from the latest technical developments in astronomy research to practical demonstration on how to set up your telescope. We try to accommodate both beginners and the more competent members’ interests.
Notable speakers include Dr Allan Chapman of Oxford University, as well as leading scientists and experts at the cutting edge of astronomical research.
Recent members presentations have included:- Binocular astronomy, The Space Shuttle missions. We also get involved in an annual quiz night and occasional BBQ evenings.
Meeting are on the first Monday of each month and start about 7.30pm, with a coffee break between talks so that members and guests can chat, ending at about 9.30pm. Exceptions are the Bank Holidays when the meeting takes place on the Monday following.
We meet at the The 9th Aylesbury Scout Hut on Oakfield Road in Aylesbury, HP20 1LJ
Non-members are welcome, so come along to see what we are about for a ‘Taster’ meeting. The Society is also available to provide open evenings at our Observatory for up to 12 people and we can provide talks on most aspects of astronomy. In the past we have welcomed visits by school groups, college classes, Scout groups, U3A, and many other organisations.
