Heaton Park Astronomy Group meetings are held in the Bowls Pavilion between 7pm and 9pm every Thursday during the winter months – see Next meeting

We are a community group, free to attend and suitable for all ages, although under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

We’re a very friendly, informal group.  Newcomers are always made welcome, whether complete beginners or those who already have some knowledge of astronomy.  It’s our aim to provide something for everyone.

We have talks and discussions on various aspects of astronomy, and when the sky is clear we go outside so we can use our telescopes and binoculars to observe whatever planets, nebulae and other interesting celestial objects are currently on view. We typically have at least half a dozen telescopes set up which we encourage anyone without a telescope to have a look through.

Next meeting

Our 2018/19 winter season has now ended and we will have no more weekly meetings until late September 2019. However, we intend to hold at least one open day in Heaton Park over the summer. Further details will be posted here nearer the time.
