The CODY Astronomical Society operates from within the Cody Technology Park in Farnborough in Hampshire, UK, the former site of the Royal Aircraft Establishment, about 30 miles west of London and now home to QinetiQ.Membership is now open to all. The society is fortunate to have its own observatory housing a 6″ Zeiss Coude refractor and meeting rooms.
On 20th January 1997 the inaugural meeting of the then DERA Astronomical Society took place in the Whittle Theatre. (The name changed to Cody AS when we weren’t allowed to be called QinetiQ AS).As 2018 is our 20th year it was decided to celebrate with an evening dinner. This took place on Friday the 19th January 2018 at the Lismoyne Hotel, Fleet.Members and partners (total 36) enjoyed a very good social evening including an “astro quiz”, and the Lismoyne provided an excellent meal and service. As can be seen in the photograph we had our display boards on hand, we also some of the history of the Society in the form of the original documents.Going on the success of the event we could see a repeat next year. A good time was had by all!
